Abraham Staudt, of Gimbweiler, was bom at Herschweiler April 5, 1672. He was the son of Tilghman Staudt, a member of the town council of Herschweiler, and the censor or ruling elder in the Reformed congregation. He was married to Engel Becker, a daughter of Wilhelm Becker, of Ilbheim. Seven of their children reached majority: Abraham, Hans, Andreas, Johannes, Katharina, Hans Nickel, juror of the Court of Justice, who was married to Anna Katrina Son tag-; and Agnes, the wife of Johannes Geiss, of Gimbweiler. Three of the sons, Abraham, Andreas, and Nickel, ended their days in Pennsylvania.
Abraham Staudt was married on February 8, 1701 to Anna Katharina Geiss, a daughter of Hans Georg Geiss. She was born at Gimbweiler, Feb¬ruary 28, 1734, and died there April 28, 1734. They were the parents of three sons and eight daughters, of whom the three sons and five of the daughters came to Pennsylvania. Abraham settled with his son George in Salisbury township, Lehigh County. The latter was a member of Zion Reformed congregation.
Jacob Staudt, born at Wolfersweiler, October 13, 1710, died at Perkasie, Bucks County, April 30, 1779. The home he erected is still standing. He was a member of the Tohicken Reformed congregation. He has many descendants. A son Abraham was a member of the Constitutional Con¬vention of Pennsylvania at the time of the American Revolution. Jacob was the first of the family of Abraham Staudt to come to Pennsylvania. On the same ship in 1737 were two of his kinsmen, John Staudt, aged 30 years, and Hans Adam Staudt, aged 19 years. Anna Katherina, baptized October 21, 1701 ; Anna Elizabeth, baptized April 18, 1718; and Anna Barbara, born April 7, 1722, followed their brother to Pennsylvania the following year. They probably sailed on the ship Glas glow, which landed at Philadelphia on September 9, 1738. Quite a few of the passengers on the ship were from Zweibruecken, among these were Daniel Staudt, aged 45 years, and Peter Staudt, aged 17 years. The latter was a member of the Tohicken Reformed church in Bucks County, where a gravestone marks his place of burial. Lisa Margaret, born in 1715, was married on February 11, 1738, to Johan Nickel Klee, of Wohrbach. The year following the marriage they accompanied her father Abraham Staudt to Pennsylvania. Mattheis Staudt, the younger son of Abraham Staudt, was bom December 26, 1725. Tradition has it that he came with his father to Pennsylvania. Margareth Katharina, baptized April 19, 1724, is believed to have also been in the party sailing for the land of hope and promise. Matthias be¬ing only 14 years of age his name does not appear among the passengers. He settled in Bern township, Berks County, where his cousin Michael Staudt had settled in 1733. A head-stone at the Bern Reformed church marks his place of burial. Dr. Calvin K. Staudt, missionary at Bagdad, is a descendant.
