| Volckert Jansen, sometimes referred to as Volckert Hans, or Volckert Jans Douw, was in New Netherland as early as 1638.In the marriage record of the Dutch church in New York, it is said that he was from "Frederickstadt." Whether this means Fredrikstad in Norway or Friedrichstadt in Schleswig- Holstein, founded in 1621 for Dutch Armmians, is difficult to deride. |
