Nicholas De Meyer, from Hamburg, was one of the most prominent among the Germans in New Amsterdam, becoming mayor of the city in 1676. .... He settled in New Amsterdam about 1655, marrying on June 6, 1655, Lydia van Dyck, daughter of the exfiscal Hendrick van Dyke. .... His wife died in 1687, leaving Nicholas five children, the eldest of whom, William de Meyer, became a prominent citizen of Esopus and Kingston in the present county of Ulster. Nicholas married again: Sara Kellenaer, a widow. He died in 1690.
